Bathroom Renovation Budgets, Things to Consider
So it’s 2024 and let’s face it, the price of construction has risen dramatically in the past 4-5 years and it doesn’t look to be getting any better in the foreseeable future. So what is a realistic budget for a bathroom renovation in Perth in 2024? And what should you consider with your bathroom renovation?
Please keep in mind the following information:
There are numerous factors to consider when it comes to budgeting for a bathroom renovation. It's difficult to provide an estimate without knowing the specifics of your needs. And googling the cost can be confusing, as search results vary widely. I came across at least 10 different estimates in a single search, ranging from $5000 to $70000. So no help at all. So I thought, let’s look at some of the factors that significantly impact the price of a bathroom renovation and things that you need to consider when looking at renovating your bathroom.
Materials & Specifications: The choice of materials and level of remodelling are crucial decisions that can significantly change a renovation price. For instance, a standard bathtub can range from $500 to well over $10000 for a high-end luxury model. And the same goes with vanities and tiles etc. And also things that where specialised labour is needed for things such as micro cement, or curved walls and tiling etc. These are all things that can significantly impact the price of your bathroom renovation.
What is Actually Included? When looking across the internet for ideas on pricing, one thing that you may not realise is what is included in some renovations and what is not included. Each renovation company will do things differently, so it is important to look at what they are supplying for the job and what other finishing trades are included. As an example, some companies may not include products at all, and some may include everything from start to finish. Some may include design and others may not. Just a few examples of things to take into account.
Quality and Service: Let’s face it not all trades and businesses are the same. Make sure that you see their work and real life recommendations to ensure they not only can deliver a finished quality product but also in timely efficient manner. And when talking to them, make sure they are friendly and approachable because you will need to work alongside them. Also, some companies like to hide potential hidden costs so you want to feel like there is honesty behind what they are saying.
Bathroom Size: Pricing of course will increase as the size of a bathroom increases, so we can get a gauge on the price of a bathroom from thinking about the sqm area of your bathroom itself. If you see our services page, you will see a starting point per metre for a completed price.
Remodelling: Determine if a complete remodel and redesign are necessary or if it's a matter of replacing existing elements. As soon as you need to make plumbing changes and or change walls etc, the cost can change dramatically. But functionality is a must when it comes to a bathroom.
It's important to keep in mind that the prices you see online are usually for basic swap-out renovations, rather than full remodelling or design projects. Sometimes, older designs simply don't meet your needs. Therefore, if your current bathroom doesn't work for you and your family or if it needs to be larger, a full remodel is necessary. While this can raise the costs, it will be worth it if done properly.
Before: Our last family homes’ only bathroom before renovation. It was a tiny square bathroom with a small window so very little natural light which was causing mould problems.
During the remodelling process….
After: We had to remodel it as it just wasn’t big enough to be a functional main bathroom so extended it so we could create a wet room with a bath.
When doing a full remodel renovation, it's generally much easier and better to get a professional involved who can take care of everything for you. They will know what to look for with potential issues, be able to schedule their trades to get the job done right, and some may even design it for you if your budget allows. If you have the experience to take it on yourself, this could save you money. However, look at the overall picture because even for an old pro renovator, if you are time poor, especially and or if you are living in the home, then renovating isn’t for the faint-hearted. Using an experienced team will make the process a easier for you.
While the costs of bathroom renovations have risen significantly in the past few years, careful consideration of materials, size, and remodelling needs will help in estimating a realistic budget. Regardless of whether you choose to tackle the renovation yourself or hire professionals, thorough planning and attention to detail are crucial for a successful and cost-effective bathroom renovation in 2024 and beyond. If it is all a little overwhelming for you then we encourage you to get in touch with professionals.
