Not just a Bedroom Renovation - Creating a Parents Retreat

Having a bedroom that feels good is important for overall well-being and relaxation. It's a place where we unwind, rest, and recharge after a long day. A comfortable and inviting bedroom can help reduce stress, promote better sleep, and improve mental clarity. And it is even more important when you are a parent. As parents we get so used to sharing every aspect of our lives with our children however having our own space reflects us as individuals, not just as parents and what we need/want at the end of a long day. A place that we can unwind after they are in bed, a place that makes us feel like we can unwind.

I remember with our last and biggest renovation. Our bedroom was the last renovation in the line of bedrooms and I remember thinking after it was done how crazy we were for not doing it earlier. You see, for me a busy Mum with an overactive mind, I never realised how important it was to have a clear calming space for me to recharge my batteries in. I honestly had been so caught up with just getting through each day making sure the kids had everything they needed to even think about how our bedroom maybe wasn’t giving me everything it could be. But I suppose that can also show that sometimes we don’t understand how important something is until we have it and then cannot live without it.

So with our new home, the first priority was creating a parents' retreat. I aimed to design a space that exuded the calmness of a spa, a place where we could relax, unwind, and recharge for the next day. With more space compared to our previous home, I was thrilled to craft a retreat rather than just a bedroom. Instead of opting for an office as per the original house plans, I decided on a spacious walk-in robe and a beautiful ensuite with my favorite bathtub.

The atmosphere of the bedroom can significantly impact mental health and mood, so it's crucial not to underestimate the importance of creating a parents' retreat. Establishing a space that embodies your individuality is essential for fostering a sense of peace and tranquility within our busy lives and living environment. As parents, it's easy to overlook the significance of these aspects in enabling us to present our best selves every day for our children.
